Compulsory Basic Training (CBT)

Compulsory Basic Training is the mandatory starting point for all learner & aspiring motorcyclists. A2B are an officially approved DVSA Motorcycle Training School & our CBT courses are typically held at our Rider Training centres in Church Fenton & our Leeds Cookridge site both providing large safe areas for learner riders.

CBT is not a test there is no exam.

If you have never ridden a motorcycle before, this is the course for you. No prior experience is necessary although you need a good sense of balance (could you ride a pedal bike?) and a good working knowledge of the HIGHWAY CODE.

CBT is a course of training that you are required to complete satisfactorily. The CBT course syllabus includes five elements and all five elements must be completed. You can only move on to the next element when your instructor is satisfied you have learnt the necessary theory and demonstrated the practical skills to a safe basic level. If you have studied the Highway Code and are riding to an acceptable standard you will receive the certificate (DL916) that validates your Licence.

Once successfully completed at 16yrs you can ride up to a 50cc, then at 17yrs and over you can ride up to 125cc, L Plates must be displayed, no passengers, no motorways.

Prior to booking your CBT you must be in possession of a UK driving Licence showing provisional entitlement for the bike type you wish to ride. Category ‘A’ for motorcycles, or Category P/AM moped.

Have confidence using our bikes, quality reliable machines that won’t let you down!

The CBT price includes bike hire with fully comprehensive insurance cover, loan helmets gloves & jackets.

You are welcome to use your own bike if you have one, and your own motorcycle protective clothing.

However, you must be in possession of a valid CBT certificate if you intend to ride to the training ground and you will need to produce evidence of valid insurance, MOT, road tax & display full-size L plate’s front & rear.
